I’m not a good blogger

Posted on August 21st, 2008 by Atkins

Well hello everyone,

As you can probably tell by now I’m a pretty terrible blogger. I don’t understand the fundamental nature of blogging which is to just get online and express the things which you are thinking about. I constantly think, “I should blog about this” but later pull that though back and tell myself that I should learn more because I’m not the defacto expert on that particular topic. Well no more, this is our blog and I’m going to push out my ideas and my life as I’m experiencing it, profound or not.

First off, I work at skinnyCorp. skinnyCorp is about to fire off a big threadless.com sale. Work has been busy and exciting at the same time. People are constantly in need of new and improved technology and as part of the threadless engineering team, we provide. I hate being pushed; and at the same time I love the thrill of cranking shit out and doing more than you though you were able to do.

Secondly, My body intrigues me. Harper, Scott, Dylan and I (skinnycorp engineers) are having a beard growing contest. Dylan has a pretty epic beard and I feel like I might have second place wrapped up. I’m almost 30 years old now and when I see myself reflected, I’m surprised by the man I’ve become. I’m married and have a wonderful wife. I’m pleased and yet still surprised whenever I catch my own reflection, I’m shocked that I’m no longer a boy or a teenager.

Finally, I just want to let everyone know that I am very happy. It’s funny how life comes at you and how things you never expected are all of a sudden your own personal history. Our wedding was damn near perfect and my only regret was that I didn’t get to spend more time with everyone who was able to attend. Tarina is an amazing person and I love her with all my heart and soul. I consider myself very lucky to be with a woman who is so incredibly beautiful, intelligent, loving and as complicated as I am.  I’m excited to get to know her side of the family more, especially my father in law Paul.

Keeping busy

Hi there!
So, I’ve been thinking I need something to do on my days off. Otherwise I end up watching the Olympics all day. Not that that’s a bad thing. I’ve seen some pretty amazing events. I’m just thinking it’s probably not the absolute best way to be spending my free time.
I think my pottery class has gotten me all fired up about finding other things to do. It’s good… I need to get a hobby, and I think that’s going to have to be something art-related. I have a few half-finished things, including my wedding scrapbook and a cross stitch I started oh-so long ago:

I have part of one of the legs on the wolf on the right done. Sad, I know.
Also, I have another cross stitch pattern I bought and haven’t started yet:

I am the queen of unfinished projects! At least that one’s cat related.

Even though I have all this unfinished business, I’m thinking I need to start painting again. I still haven’t gotten the details all worked out, but I am pretty sure I can figure something out that will work. And the good thing is that our clinic needs new art work! How’s that for fortuitous timing. And since I’m taking care of the redecorating of the clinic, I can hang whatever artwork I damn well please, and it might as well be mine. At least in part. :)
I just need to figure out a couple of things. I think I’ll probably paint in the office and just close the cats out while I work. Now, I need to know where to put my paintings out of reach of the cats as they dry (the paintings, not the cats). Hmmm. I suppose that’s actually the only detail I really need to work out. That’s not too bad. I’m sure inspiration will strike me soon. And then I will have no excuses!
And I have a nice paint set that Atkins gave me a long time ago and I never used. It looks a lot like this:

Well, I’ll keep you updated. I am sure something will present itself as the best option and I’ll be a happy, productive girl. ;)
In the meantime, I’ll take suggestions!

Trying new things

Well, nothing too crazy has been going on here. Atkins and I headed out to Lollapalooza this last Sunday to check out the madness. Yes, there was a lot of madness. Lots of people. I’m just glad it wasn’t hotter than about 85 or so degrees, because then it would have been miserable.
But we got to see a few acts before we reached our threshold. My favorite was Flogging Molly. It was pretty sweet to see them.

Atkins and I are trying to work out exactly how to get all the car stuff situated. We have to get Illinois plates (something we probably should have done a while ago) and driver’s licenses as well. I suppose I should figure out what I am doing about my last name before I go get my driver’s license taken care of, but that’s another matter. Haha. So, a trip to the local DMV is in store. Terribly exciting!

We’re getting a new practice manager at work. That’s going to go a long way to helping us out, I think. The clinic could use a little more direction. Overall, it’s going well, though. I have done some pretty exciting surgeries!

That’s about all for this tiny little update. Sorry it’s not more exciting. ;)
